The Wilderness Chapel

Groundbreaking May 3, 2005 |
We truly saw God at work.
A group of ladies from Gadsden/Rainbow City, Alabama came up for a retreat. While giving them a tour of the property we mentioned our desire to have a chapel up on the hill behind the bonfire pit. One of the ladies informed us that their husbands actually built churches around the world as their mission project. She told us that we should check with 'the guys about building a chapel here.
In my unbelief I figuratively tucked that little bit of information in my back pocket for future use. I thought that someone, somewhere will benefit from these families' sacrifice of time, money, and vacation time, but not me or our vision of The Wilderness.

Not too long after their visit one of the men called us and asked where we were on our plans. They said that their building trip that year had fallen through and they were looking for another building project. We were elated. They said that if we could get a foundation poured (and cured) and all the building materials on site ahead of time, that they would be able to build the shell of the Chapel in five days.
