Welcome to a special place we call The Wilderness.
The Wilderness of Mentone is a Christian Retreat offered to the Christian community. Currently we have a Chapel, which includes two bunkhouses (sleeping 30 per side) and bathrooms with showers upstairs. Downstairs is a worship area, the kitchen and the Sonroom. Down the hill is a pond, a bonfire pit, a large playing field and miles of hiking trails. One place you might find on the trails is Shigley Hole, a fabulous swimming hole.

The retreat, located on Lookout Mountain in DeKalb County, Alabama, backs up to the Little River National Preserve and DeSoto State Park.
We welcome all Christians, regardless of denomination. Jesus Christ prayed for unity of the body and we feel this is our small way of promoting that. The Wilderness is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) corporation.

Christians can leave behind the everyday stresses of life, relax, listen to a speaker, and enjoy fellowship. In the longterm that won't be our niche.
Because our purpose is different from the usual retreat, we desire those who visit to view the retreat differently. We pray people will visit repeatedly throughout the year. And although we will have structured conferences where we bring in outside speakers, usually, those who visit won't be "sitters", but instead, will share in everything; providing their insight into God's plan for our lives, playing a guitar, building trails, preparing meals, growing into their part of the Body of Christ! Our prayer is that this retreat will become a special place where we encourage, instruct and challenge each other to "put aside every weight" (Hebrews 12:1) so God can have free reign in our lives and enable us to live the incredible adventure He has planned!
