The Wilderness: a place to seek God
Thanks for letting us introduce you to a unique place called The Wilderness. It is located just south of Mentone, Alabama, on Lookout Mountain.
The 20-acre property consists of the farmhouse, four cottages, the wilderness chapel, large fields, a stream and a pond. One of our favorite features is that it adjoins DeSoto State Park and the Little River Canyon National Preserve which has miles of beautiful trails, a pristine river, huge rock formations, and many quiet locations where you can spend time with God.

The Wilderness Bed and Breakfast
The Wilderness Bed and Breakfast is almost ready to open for business. When you stay at The Wilderness you're going to get your own private cottage for your stay.
Breakfast is not included yet. We opened the B&B in April and our kitchen is not yet up to the health department's commercial standards. Therefore, our rates are discounted.

The Wilderness Christian Retreat
There are many retreats/camps that focus on providing a wholesome, fun atmosphere where Christians can leave behind the everyday stresses of life, relax, listen to a speaker, and enjoy fellowship. That won't be our niche.
Because our purpose is different from the usual retreat, we desire those who visit to view the retreat differently. We pray people will visit repeatedly throughout the year. And although we will have structured conferences where we bring in outside speakers, usually, those who visit won't be "sitters", but instead, will share in everything; providing their insight into God's plan for our lives, playing a guitar, building trails, preparing meals, growing into their part of the Body of Christ! Our prayer is that this retreat will become a special place where we encourage, instruct and challenge each other to "put aside every weight" (Hebrews 12:1) so God can have free reign in our lives and enable us to live the incredible adventure He has planned!

The Farmhouse is an old farmhouse, re-built in the 1930s after a housefire. After living in it the first six years we lived here, we've renovated it and are almost ready to open it as lodging for groups such as reunions, couple's retreats. The farmhouse has seven bedrooms and four baths and sleeps 25.

One of our favorite features is that DeSoto State Park and the Little River National Park adjoin The Wilderness on our west.
Just a fifteen minute hike down the trail is an incredible swimming hole. Also, ask about our hike that leads to the Secret Waterfall.
